Sample the Beirut Musician Who Masters Any Instrument

When you call your solo project an "ensemble," you're either completely crazy or mad serious about your music. Multi-instrumentalist Charif Megarbane is a bit of both. His work as Cosmic Analog Ensemble is heavily informed by jazz-funk, hip-hop sampling, and library music. Under his own name, he released 'Marzipan' on Habibi Funk, with compositions inspired by his home country of Lebanon.

"This very musical and instrumental approach from Dilla or Madlib, even if they used vinyl, was a big boost for me. It was possible to do solo stuff without too much technology and to produce a lot while remaining fun."

—Charif Megarbane (Interview with Gonzai)

"Though he shuffles through many genres, Megarbane's signature sound leans heavily on vintage movie scores."

—The Guardian
