Amidst the heydays of hippie culture in their hometown of San Francisco, Leon's Creation carved out a Sly & The Family Stone-influenced fusion of funk, rock, soul, and jazz. Their 1970 record 'This Is The Beginning' led Leon Patillo's band to open for bands like WAR and Rare Earth, while the frontman himself was hired to arrange music for artists like George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic, Leo Sayer, The Pointer Sisters, and Carlos Santana—the latter of whom even asked him to join his legendary band Santana as a lead vocalist.
