Read between the synth lines, and there's one thing 'In the Regions of Sunreturn' makes clear: electronic musician Michael Garrison had a deep fascination for space exploration and astronomy. Soon after the launch of Voyager 1 & 2 in 1977, the synthesizer player went into the studio to work on an album "dedicated to the infinite journeys" of the interstellar probes.

For the gear heads, it's worth adding that in his studios, Michael Garrison was surrounded by an ARP 2600 with sequencers, a Moog synthesizer with Ribbon Control System, ARP Axxe, Arp String synthesizer, Moog Poly pedals, and a Synare 2 analog percussion synthesizer. Those were his tools of the trade to compose music in line with the 'Berlin School' sound, the innovative precursor of ambient music known from pioneering German artists like Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze.
