Matthew Hayes is a composer and electric bass player from Melbourne, Australia known for his versatile abilities as a jazz bassist in projects such the 30/70 collective, JK group, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange and more. Matthew Hayes has steadily built a secondary reputation for his sublime ambient compositions, notably 2017’s Indio album for the Analogue Attic Label. Hayes perfectly imbues dance floor inspired baselines and steady rhythms with ethereal textures and divine synth lines. Of late, the prolific musician and composer is becoming recognised for the great sophistication and elegance evident in his ambient compositions. For Hayes, creating “ambient and freeform music is a reaction to the highly rhythmic music I spend most of my time playing”.
