Artist
Producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and conceptual artist, Raz Mesinai (aka The Original Ghost Producer) has been producing prolifically for the past thirty years under various monikers, including Badawi, Psy Co., Sub Dub and Ghost Producer. Born in Jerusalem, Palestine and raised in Lower Harlem during the 70s and 80s, Mesinai grew up immersed in the early rise of Hip-Hop culture. While writing graffiti at the age of ten, Mesinai also began producing using boom boxes, tv sets, answering machines, record players and his own live drumming on hand percussion, to give to break dancers in his neighborhood by Rock Steady Park. Later, at age fourteen, Mesinai met free jazz legend and Hendrix percussionist Juma Sultan, who gave Mesinai some of his first proper sound equipment. By age fifteen Mesinai began prolifically producing albums and selling them in the streets of New York City on cassette, later getting signing to several of the legendary electronic, experimental, dub, punk, and hardcore labels including ROIR, Asphodel, Tzadik and Instinct Records by the early 90’s. In 2017, Raz Mesinai founded the Underground Producers Alliance, with fellow producers Scotty Hard (Wu Tang Clan), HoneyChild Coleman (The 1865, Badawi) and HPrizm (Anti Pop Consortium), a global provider of artist development for professionals in the music industry.
