Danish National Symphony Orchestra

DR RadioSymfoniOrkestret was the name from 1996 to 2008 of the symphony orchestra of DR, the Danish national broadcasting corporation. The orchestra is also officially the national orchestra of Denmark, which is apparent in its English name, The Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Established in 1925 as Statsradiofoniens Symfoniorkester, it was renamed to Danmarks Radios Symfoniorkester in 1959 and kept this name until 1996. Principal conductors were Ulf Schirmer (1995-98), Gerd Albrecht (1999-2004), and Thomas Dausgaard (2004-11). In 2008 the name of the orchestra was shortened to DR SymfoniOrkestret.
