American Methodist rescue mission worker, poet, lyricist, and composer (March 24, 1820 – February 12, 1915).
Known as Fanny Crosby in the United States and by her married name, Frances van Alstyne, in the United Kingdom. She was probably the most prolific hymnist in history. Though blinded by a doctor at six weeks of age, she wrote over 8,000 hymns.
