The Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester Leipzig (RSO Leipzig) is affiliated to the public broadcaster MDR - Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk. It was founded on 6 January 1923 with Alfred Szendrei as its first principal conductor, thus being the oldest German radio orchestra.
After the German Reunification the Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester Leipzig was renamed to MDR Sinfonieorchester.
