Lo-Flo Records was initially conceived as an archiving project – an ongoing document of Jane McNealy’s rich musical history with respect to songs written and relationships forged. A discouraging cancer diagnosis in 2017 only added fuel to the creative fire behind this mission, acting as a driving factor towards the goal of documenting the results of her extensive career, as well as chronicling the accumulated successes of many creative partnerships. The trajectory of Lo-Flo’s current and future releases combine the free and exploratory sound McNealy helped to develop on the West Coast with the tighter, structured orchestrations highlighted in her experience composing films and musicals. The label also plans to serve as the platform for McNealy’s contemporary work, beginning with the release of a poignant video for the first single from Running Around, titled “Turn Away From Darkness.”
A major portion of the earnings from this inspired output will be given to the American Cancer Society and the ACLU, in the spirit of leaving concurrent legacies of musical achievement and social justice. In McNealy’s own words, “Nothing worth doing well happens in a day. It takes a lifetime of hard work and perseverance. And even then, the most that is certain is artistic fulfillment.
